Description
These flexible vinyl-covered sprung wire cable releases can be used with any camera with a threaded shutter release button or mechanism. This includes the majority of ‘classic’ SLR cameras, rangefinders, TLRs and some folders from the mid/late 20th century*.
A cable release is necessary for low-light tripod work, macro work, or any occasion where activating the shutter with a thumb or finger could result in camera-shake, and blurred photos.
The cable release has two modes: Momentary action, and auto-locking:
Momentary action mode: When the knurled bezel (see gallery image) is pressed down toward the finger handles, and twisted clockwise, the cable release will be in momentary action mode. The sprung metal plunger extends and returns as it’s pressed, and can be held open for as long as required by hand (thumb probably!). This mode is used for all normal photography where a shutter speed is set.
Auto-locking mode: If the knurled bezel is twisted anti-clockwise and left open, the sprung metal plunger will extend and stay extended when it’s pressed. This mode is needed when the camera is set to Bulb mode; For example when taking long manually timed exposures. To unlock the cable release when it’s in this mode, just press the knurled bezel down toward the finger handles, and the plunger will be released.
