How to use your Polaroid ND Filters

These filters are designed to fit over the film in a Polaroid 600-sized film pack. They are placed on top of the film pack’s darkslide, and stay in place once the film has been inserted and the darkslide has been ejected. To fit your filter, carefully follow the diagram below:

1) Hold the 600 film pack so the darkslide is upside down.
2) Place the Filter over the film pack with the top three tabs facing upward.
3) Gently press all the central tabs down so they ‘pop’ under the plastic frame.
4) Important! Leave the upper left and upper right tabs outside the plastic frame.

Film compatibility:

These filters are sized for use with Polaroid 600 and Polaroid SX-70 film packs, both the classic 10-frame types and newer 8-frame type. Thanks to consistent frame and cartridge opening sizing, the filters can also be used with Polaroid i-Type film.

Technical Data:

These filters are hand-cut from LEE Filters® gel and whilst every effort is taken to keep the gel material clean and free from dust and marks, from time to time some very shallow hairline surface scratches can be seen. These small marks are sometimes present on the fresh roll stock from Lee Filters. These marks should not have any negative effect on image quality. Please get in touch if you have concerns.

🟢 2-Stop version: Provides 2-stops of light attenuation and has a Filter Factor of ND4, an Optical Density of 0.6 and Transmittance of 25%. 1-Stop filters made mid-2025 onwards have a blue dot sticker 🟢 on one of the upper tabs.

Packaging disposal and recycling

The cardboard ‘topper’ and tissue paper are classed as ‘PAP 21’ and can be placed in your household recycling (UK).

The Polythene sleeve can store your filters when they are not in use. When it’s no longer needed, the sleeve material can be recycled with other bags at supermarkets. Local kerbside collection rules may vary (UK).

The filter material is classed as DMR (Dry Mixed Recyclables). Some recyclers happily accept it, others won’t. It’s probably best to check your local kerbside collection rules. We’ll post any updates here.

Problems?

Firstly, if the filter is ejected with the darkslide, make sure the two outer tabs (see Diagram 4 above) are not inserted under the plastic frame. If this happens you’ll need to reinsert your darkslide in pitch-black conditions and try again.
